Problem
Compare the IS 800:2007 limit-state capacities with STAAD.Pro's design output.
Reference
- STAAD.Pro V8i SS6, the same input file run by Sutranet (CODE IS800 LSD, TRACK 2 for the capacity of each clause).
Model
- ISA 100×100×10, pinned, 2 m long
- 150 kN axial compression; buckling curve c about the minor principal axis
- E 205 GPa; the checks are given STAAD's section properties, so the comparison is of the code clauses alone
Comparison
| Result | Clause | STAAD.Pro | Sutranet | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compression Pd, STAAD's section properties (kN) | 7.1.2 | 202.430 | 202.4304 | none |
| Compression Pd, Sutranet's own section properties (kN) | 7.1.2 | 202.430 | 202.118 | 0.15% |
- The second row uses the angle properties Sutranet computes itself, including the minor principal radius of gyration.
- In the app, sections come from the IS 808:2021 table, which differs from STAAD's older table by up to 1.1% (see V.07.1), so the app's capacities differ from these by about that much.
Reproduce in Sutranet CAD
- Open the project in the app (no sign-up needed), or download the file and open it with 📂 Import Job JSON in the File group.
- Run Analysis (Static) with P-Delta Analysis unticked and Design Code IS 800.
The app works in SI units; results in kip and inch are converted (1 kip = 4.448 kN, 1 kip-in = 0.1130 kN·m, 1 in = 25.4 mm).
Automated test: staad_design.rs, run on every change.
